Take a day trip from London by car to Camber Sands beach. The best beach near. Trust us, we’ve tried a few and this one takes some beating.
When: Summer | Cost per couple: £5-£20 | What for: Huge sandy beach, huge sand dunes, warm sea, shallow sea, relaxation, bbq, dog walking
Packing list: A car, cash, blanket, towels, swimwear, sunscreen, food, lots of water, a waterproof pouch for your valuables so you can enjoy the sea together.
8AM – Get in the car and head towards Camber Sands near Rye using SatNav TN31 7RB
9:30AM – Arrive at Camber Sands and park at the field on your left before the main beach car park which will cost you just £5 per car. If that is shut, use the beach car park on the right which will be around £10 per car for the day.
10AM – Depending on the tide, you may arrive at high or low tide. Either way, you will be here for the day so find somewhere in the sand dunes overlooking the sea and chillax, it will get a whole lot busier down on the flats by midday! Some useful Camber Sands beach safety information can be found here
12PM – Take a picnic with you or you can queue at the car park café for some food. Our recommendation would be to bring your own so you can spend as much time as possible at the beach. Don’t be afraid of going for a dip in the sea, it is deceptively warm.
3PM – If it’s a hot, sticky day you will want a cool refreshing drink. The chilled back yet chic Gallivant beach bar opposite the main car park is a great place to regain your cool in Hamptons-ish boho surroundings.
If we ever wanted to move here, this is the kind of place we would like to live in!
4PM – We’d suggest leaving around this time so you don’t get stuck in traffic when leaving the car park.
You have a choice now:
- to head back to London to avoid most of the traffic chaos, or
- head to the wonderful town of Rye to enjoy this beauty of a town – SAT NAV TN31 7BE for free street parking (Rye town centre is a bit of a pain to park in during the summer).
4:30PM – Get lost exploring this wonderfully medieval and hilly harbour town with its myriad of boutiques, shingle streets, incredible fish & chips (seriously – Marinos Fish Bar) and instagram worthy architecture.
