Nothing says I love you more than throwing each other off a 2,000ft high mountain then hugging it out in a glorious Welsh campsite.
When: Summer/ Autumn | Cost per couple: £350 | What for: Mountains, camping & beaches
Packing list: A car, tent, sleeping bags, towels, swimwear, flip-flops, food, lots of water, trainers, changes of clothes, waterproofs, blankets.
5AM – Leave London and drive 4.5hrs West towards ZipWorld (Sat Nav LL57 4YG). This is where up to 4 people can hurtle themselves off a stunning mountain to the depths of a disused slate quarry. A 2 hour experience costing £89pp at weekends is definitely a MUST DO in the uk. Book in advance
10AM – Hopefully you were able to book an early flying slot so get kitted out and enjoy the next couple of hours. You can hire helmet cameras if you want to capture the experience 1st person too
1PM – After you have had a bite to eat (there is a canteen on site or bring your own), take the glorious drive through the heart of Snowdonia National Park from the north to the south. Make your way to Aberytswyth or the campsite
2PM – Grab some lunch or relax on the beach in Aberytswyth and soak up everything you would expect from a British seaside
4PM – Get in the car and head towards Gwerniago campsite (Sat NavSY20 9JX). You need to register at the farmhouse on entrance and will most likely be greeted on arrival by goat, goose, chicken or all three before you meet a human! Book in advance
Gwerniago is one of the few campsites who let you have a fire pit on site.
You can bring your own or hire one of their old recycled car wheels for a fire pit. If you get there late, forget about hiring one as they will most likely be gone along with the best pitch sites
5PM – Get the tent pitched, set up the fire and get your dinner on. Or you could just pop down to the Henningham Chip Shop, voted best chip shop in Wales. A mere 15 minutes drive (don’t think Deliveroo has reached there yet?). There are also a couple of nice pubs nearby too
8PM – We decided to put the BBQ on with our good friends and enjoyed what has to be the holy grail of BBQ sausages… the mighty Polish Kielbasa. (Andy’s pro-tip: use your £5 Amazon electric portable air bed pump to turbo charge the heat of your BBQ pronto!)
It will get cooler in the evening but the sky will fill with magnificent stars so grab your blanket, a warm or cool drink, sit back, look up and watch the greatest show on earth
We recommend hanging around for a couple of days. If we had more time we would have loved to visit Zip World’s sister site – Bounce Below (Sat Nav LL41 3NB). A series of trampolines suspended from the roofs of a disused mine. Check the video below to see just how awesome this place is!
